Beacon of Hope shining in Atlantic City

It might be a mid-day event, but the beacon of hope will be shining brightly in Atlantic City’s midtown on Tuesday, May 23.

Gateway Community Action Partnership’s new Head Start Early Education Center, 1433 Bacharach Boulevard, will be formally unveiled at a 10 a.m. ribbon cutting ceremony.

The $22 million, state-of-the-art, eco-friendly, green facility will serve more than 300 children and their families. The project is funded by Super Storm Sandy Relief Funds through the oversight of the Administration for Children and Families’ Region II offices.

Following the ribbon cutting, there will be building tours and lunch. A community day is scheduled for noon at the new center.

The architectural team of City Invincible designed the three-story, 20-classroom facility. P. Agnes served a general contractor. The project was completed on time and budget.

“This is indeed a beacon of hope for Atlantic City. A shining example of overcoming adversity to do great things together.” Albert B. Kelly, CCAP, president & CEO of Gateway, said.

“We are proud and pleased of this milestone. Of this wonderful new facility. To work with Region II, the city and other partners to provide quality, family-focused child care to residents that will also improve the entire community … that is a dream come true.” Kelly added.

The new 43,747-square foot facility was completed ahead of schedule and on budget by City Invincible Architecture and P. Agnes Construction.

“Gateway not only had a clear community vision for the project but proved to be a highly professional and organized client,” Angelo Alberto, principal of City Invincible Architecture, said. “With them, we created a building that is a laboratory for learning which will serve as a welcoming centerpiece for the children in the community.”

Groundbreaking for the new center, which replaces five storm-damaged Atlantic City centers, was held in May 2015 and a beam topping event took place 11 months ago.

The event is part of National Community Action Month and is being held during the week of the New Jersey Head Start Association’s state conference in Atlantic City.
