Topping ceremony planned for Gateway’s Atlantic City Head Start Center

Gateway Community Action Partnership will hold a beam topping ceremony at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 1 on its $22 million Head Start center at 1433 Bacharach Boulevard, Atlantic City.

The 43,787-square foot, three-story center is scheduled for completion in May 2017 and will provide quality early childhood education for approximately 300 children and employ 80 Head Start teachers, aides and support staff. The center replaces four Atlantic City centers severely damaged by Superstorm Sandy.

Gateway, Head Start, Atlantic City and Atlantic County officials will be on hand to sign the final beam to top the building’s infrastructure, which includes more than 400,000 pounds of steel and will support a roof system that can withstand winds of 165 miles per hour.

The building was designed by Alberto & Associates and P. Agnes is the General Contractor. Facility funding is provided by Superstorm Sandy relief funds as coordinated by the Office for Children & Families, Office of Head Start Region II.
