Gateway to conduct sock drive

Gateway Community Action Partnership is sponsoring a Sock Drive to benefit the area’s Code Blue effort. Volunteers report that homeless clients are experiencing an urgent need for warm socks this winter.

Donations of new socks for men, women and children may be dropped off at the reception area of Gateway Community Action Partnership’s Administrative Office on Thursday, Dec. 3 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The Bridgeton Code Blue Program was created to provide "Warming Centers" as a way for homeless persons in the community to find shelter from frigid overnight temperatures during the cold winter months. At the present time, St. Andrews Church, Bethany Grace Community Church, Parish of the Holy Cross (St. Teresa’s RC Church), Bethany Seventh-Day Adventist Church, The Bridge, Marlboro SDB and the Salvation Army have agreed to serve as "warming centers" for the Code Blue project. A "Code Blue" is initiated when temperatures are 32 degrees with precipitation or 25 degrees without precipitation. Designated Warming Centers rotate on a weekly basis. Warming Centers are open from 6 pm until 6 am on nights when Code Blue is in effect.

For more information, or to make arrangements to donate socks, contact Nina Young at nyoung@gatewaycap.org or 856-497-6756.
