Gateway to assist Federal workers Impacted by government shutdown

Gateway Community Action Partnership will assist federal workers impacted by the partial government shutdown by making food packages available for individuals and families.

During the duration of the shutdown, furloughed federal workers or federal workers working without pay, can utilize the services of Gateway’s Gleaning and Food Recovery Program.

Gateway will make boxes of shelf stabile or non-perishable foods available to federal workers. The agency requests impacted workers to provide their federal photo ID to receive food distribution.

A distribution will be held Wednesday, January 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Gateway’s 65 Manheim Ave., Bridgeton location.

“This is an unfortunate situation that negatively impacts so many federal workers who provide essential services. Not having those services, and those employees not being paid and therefore unable to support their families, is very difficult for them to endure and for us to comprehend,’ Albert B. Kelly, CCAP, president & CEO of Gateway, said.

Kelly noted that Gateway will continue to offer services as needed to those most vulnerable in our community, and as a member of the National Community Action Partnership, will assist as needed, to promote awareness of the shutdown’s negative effects.

All furloughed federal workers or federal workers working without pay, who areexperiencing temporary or extended financial hardship due to the government shutdown are able to apply for the assistance through the Department of Community Affairs website, Gateway Community Action Partnership, a local LIHEAP program provider (856-451-6330), or by calling 800-510-3102.
